John Hus, a follower of Wycliffe is burned at the stake.

In a final statement, Hus' last words were, "In 100 years, God will raise up a man whose calls for reform cannot be suppressed." Nearly 100 years later, in 1517, Martin Luther would post his 95 theses against the Catholic Church and thus fulfill the seeming prophecy of Hus.

The Western Schism ends upon the election of Pope Martin V.

1431



Joan of Arc is burned at the stake.

1440-1447


Johann Gutenberg develops the technology of the printing press.

 

1452



Leonardo Da Vinci is born near Florence, Italy.

1455-1456


The Gutenberg Bible is completed as the first printed Bible off the technology of the printing press (1447).
 

The Gutenberg Bible had 40,000 editions printed between 1455 and 1500. The text was printed in Latin.


1466



Erasmus is born in the Netherlands.

1475



Michelangelo is born in Italy.

1483



Martin Luther is born in Germany.

1492



Christopher Columbus' voyage arrives in the New World.
